PREPARATION GUIDE

Read about how to best
prepare your files for high
quality printing.

Package

InDesign and QuarkXpress can collect all the assets of your design. This ensures we receive all fonts and linked images.

InDesign: goto File,
then Package
QuarkXPress: goto File, then Collect for Output

Compress/Zip

Compressing or zipping your files protects them from any data-loss during the internet transfer.

Mac: hold Command, click the file or folder, choose Create Archive or Compress

PC: Right-click the file or folder, select Send To, then Compressed (zipped) Folder

Vector vs. Bitmap

Vector graphics can be resized without losing image quality. They are best for logos and line drawings. Bitmap images will appear fuzzy and lose detail if created at a low resolution and then enlarged.

Resolution

Line Art should have a resolution of 600-800 dpi. Photographs should have a resolution of 300 dpi. Scanners create bitmap images so pick the correct resolution at the time of scanning as increasing resolution later results in poor image quality.

CMYK vs. RGB

Make sure your images and files are in Process Color (CMYK) mode. CMYK is for printed material, RGB is for monitors. When using only a few colors, the Pantone Matching System (PMS) helps ensure we print the color you intend.
